    Opinions on possible truck purchase.

Out of state is an option if the truck is exactly what I'm looking for--clean & straight body, manual, 4x4, SuperCab F250, '93-'94 factory turbo. I've never owned a clean vehicle with nice/decent paint and an interior that was clean as well. I love beaters because you need not fear bushes...

    Opinions on possible truck purchase.

Prices for everything are pretty high where I live. I see 2nd gen dodges with a manual and clean body with 150k or less go fast at 16k-17k, automatics just sit even when advertised as heavy duty rebuilt. Admittedly Powerstrokes are starting to look better and better as I see them sit for a...

    Opinions on possible truck purchase.

dang Wes, the resolution must suck on my laptop 'cuz I did not even notice those dents but now that I look closer you are absolutely correct. The main reason I was interested was that the body looked relatively straight but I can see now that I was mistaken. And the hood escaped my eye as...

    Opinions on possible truck purchase.

Here's the Clist ad: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/hayward-1993-ford-f250-diesel-low-miles/6836162432.html I have e-mailed the seller regarding recent repair details. I had only specifically asked about IP, injectors, and clutch/flywheel so that was the info I received, though I...

Full or empty tank while stored in south

This might be even more important than worrying about the fuel tanks. Dropping and replacing a tank or two seems way easier than dealing with the damage that rodents can cause. Another thought would be to put some sort of desiccant in the cab to absorb moisture.

Full or empty tank while stored in south

I don't have an answer, but as I understand it the more air space in the tank the more room for water to condense. If you leave them empty/near empty for multiple years I would worry about corrosion. If it were me I probably would buy a good diesel stabilizer from a reputable brand and hope...

Super (Duty) -Visor advice on cold start

Of course few of us really like the idea of full throttle before full oil pressure but perhaps it's safer than it seems.

is this the truck for the job

Depending on how far from home and friends you plan on going I would recommend preemptive replacement for some of the less expensive and easier to R&R items. I hate getting stranded and the only times my truck left me on the side of the road were when the clutch pedal bushing busted and my...

    Getting hard to start lately

Keep soaking that Autolite with Kroil or PB Blaster. I had to remove 8 Autolites when I bought my truck and two or three seemed swollen, but lots of patience and gently working them back and forth did the trick. And FWIW I recall reading that the best penetrating lubricant was a 1:1 mix of...

    injection pump timing quick question

Fun IP fact: apparently you only need two of the three mounting bolts tight. Messed a bit with my timing the other day and after making a wrench to loosen the lower bolt on passenger side of pump I found that it wasn't even finger tight. Pump has about 100k on it and no idea how long that 3rd...

Turning radius OBS Super Cab & Crew Cab

In my search for another truck I seem to be finding more crew cabs in better condition than Super Cabs so i was wondering if anybody out there had some numbers on the turning radius for OBS CC and SC. The turning radius of my F250 SC with a D60 is plenty ample but if the CC isn't much worse...

Glow plugs on too long... but not getting too hot?

Why not rig up a manual switch so you can bypass the controller? That would at least let you know if the controller is somehow the culprit.

    Strange Front Speaker Issue

Well you could just go with no door panels at all like I do, but since I doubt that sounds enticing I would think about maybe using a thin piece of foam like a gasket around the edge of the metal cover. I don't know exactly what a '90 door panel is like but I would venture a guess that if...

    Current radiator recommendations?

I've been running a Spectra plastic/aluminum for 3 years with zero issues. Another member here advised me to switch my rad cap for one a few lbs lower, maybe even as low as 7lbs I can't recall exactly, than the factory spec as he had done so for several years without issue. Mine has been...

    Cheap pyrometer

First Idiocracy reference I've seen in a loooooong time. Personally I prefer water--yes, like in the toilet.

    Starter help.

FWIW I thought I had a starter exhibit similar behavior to what you are describing and indeed my starter was dead, but I found that I also had one very bad ground cable and a couple pretty beat factory terminals. So I would definitely recommend double-checking the condition of all your batt...

    Fuel in oil question.

I've never dealt with this issue but wouldn't changing out the lift pump be the cheapest and most logical place to start?

Is this IDI the right truck for me?

So are you saying a newer 4 door short bed is only one inch longer than an OBS 4 door long bed? I'm confused. Glad to hear you don't have to deal with SF city traffic--I spent one summer working around the Bay Area and that was more than enough for me!

Guys who are proficient with these motors.... R&R 94 turbo engine, regasket and paint quote?

My memory is a bit fuzzy on this one but a while back I was sure my front main seal was leaking, but after I replaced by lift pump the leak went away. All I can figure is that my old lift pump wasn't sealed properly to the block and air flow was moving some of the oil around. I know you're on...

    Bad booster too?!

To clean the rad you can remove it and let it soak overnight filled with regular white vinegar. Pretty cheap and shouldn't hurt anything.

Is this IDI the right truck for me?

Your location is San Francisco, so I would avoid a 4-door longbed truck like the plague. Tight streets, parking lots, Bay Area traffic, crowded lumber yards, etc. My truck is an extended cab longbed and I often wish it was a bit shorter. Sure you get used to anything after a while, but Bay...

    Tempted by Newer Truck

A 6.0 has so much more to go wrong than an IDI. Literally every person I've spoken to said their 6.0 was a great truck when it was running right, but that it was expensive to keep it running right, and nobody said they were sad to get rid of them.

Needed advice to fix or forget?

The lower part of that rubber tube basically went to pieces on me when I replaced it about 4 years ago. I was able to get some out but I'm sure I didn't get it all. 35k later and things seem to be OK, but yeah I do think about it from time to time.

    Cheap pyrometer

I totally understand if you just don't like the digital gauges and I had my heart set on going all mechanical with Isspro, but the digital setup offered through Auber Instruments or TheSensorConnection is pretty darn nice and cheap. The reaction time to changing temps is very fast, gauge fits...
