    E-fuel mounting question

My Facet 40285 is mounted on a homemade aluminum bracket bolted to the right inner fender. It's far enough from the engine that heat does not seem to be an issue, and the plastic fenderwell should mute the vibrations.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I suspect a seepage of coolant from the thermostat housing as it does seem to be damp right there (high up). Water pump less than a year old, new gasket (installed properly by me). Drained about 5 gallons of coolant, removed the belt, alternator and fuel filter bracket to get to the stat. The...

    Fuel lines leaking... everywhere

You could always replace the FSV too... https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8744384&jsn=1 (and much less expensive than a stock replacement).

    Zerex G-05 rebate

Thanks for posting another source. That's a good deal too! A lot of online places (including Amazon) have started collecting sales tax though... and Walmart.com can be very slow. At least we won't have to worry about SCA additives or checking levels for three to five years and it's available...

    Zerex G-05 rebate

Autozone has another couple weeks on a rebate program. Zerex G-05 (full strength) is normally $20 a gallon but they are offering a rebate of $7. It can be submitted online if you can scan your receipt. I bought four gallons today for my future coolant flush/change (once I find and fix the...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I drove it to town for a thermostat housing gasket and four gallons of Zerex G-05. But the weather forecast from last night was a lie... it's barely above freezing and a chill damp wind blows right through any clothing. So basically I didn't do anything to it today ;)

    Bull Moose Injection Pump

At 15 psi boost you'll definitely want a intercooler. Is this a stock turbo? The compressor maps I've seen are really falling out of the efficiency island at that boost level. But I think you could install and run the pump, just keep your foot light and watch your EGT's until you install the...

7.3 Banks turbo drivetrain in SW Missouri

Don't need it... I did mine the hard way (shop replaced heads & head gaskets, I put the turbo on, I bought the SMF LuK kit and had the shop put it on). Now I'm stuck for life to ever make it worth it ;)

7.3 Banks turbo drivetrain in SW Missouri

Like I said... location, location, location :) Just not enough IDI's in these parts to get amazing bargains like you keep posting ;) Anyway that's just the asking price, if he still has it, cash probably talks.

7.3 Banks turbo drivetrain in SW Missouri

Too high a price for a complete running low-miles 7.3, a Banks kit AND a ZF5?? Not around here! What would that combo be worth in your neck of the woods?

ARP stud install and engine tear down

When I bought the truck it was leaking coolant from both head gaskets. It was midwinter so I had a shop do them - while the heads were off it turns out they were both cracked so I bought a set of rebuilt heads. Didn't have plans to turbo it then, so stayed with bolts instead of even more $$ to...

ARP stud install and engine tear down

Is it possible to swap out head bolts for studs, one at a time? (rather than pull the heads in the truck, or even pull the engine)? :dunno

7.3 Banks turbo drivetrain in SW Missouri

Possibly of interest? Not sure if it's still available (25 days old). No connection, etc. A complete 150k mile 7.3 IDI, Banks turbo, ZF5 (needs a clutch) for $2k in Branson, Mo. https://springfield.craigslist.org/pts/d/branson-73-idi-diesel-engine-banks/6790303752.html

Starter turns, stops, then turns and cranks. Video a

Looks just like a chocolate milkshake... brownish/white mixture that occurs when antifreeze/water is mixed with the oil and aerated by the oil pump. You definitely don't want to see that on your dipstick or when draining oil.

    Coolant leak from thermostat housing

I found this article useful: http://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/engine/6-9-7-3-idi-thermostat-replacement/ He shows several things (like chasing the bolt holes, and carefully cleaning the block and housing mating surfaces) that may or may not have been done... I shall see.

    Coolant leak from thermostat housing

At least I HOPE that's where it's coming from, since I got it hot when the serp belt jumped off the pulleys (although the temp gauge wasn't pegged, just high end of the normal band, and the overheat light didn't come on). It's too high up to be "just" the head gasket, and it's not trickling down...

    Never before seen mess

True, but it's a lot easier to service (and protected from water and road debris) when it's on the inner fender. The Facet pumps we use are rated to lift up to 10 ft.

Who says you need to replace nylon drain plug washers?!

A torque wrench doesn't help if you have no concept of the proper feel vs. bolt size... Story time. (Caution: non-Ford content) :D I have two BMW's with the same V8 engine, but the '97 has a small plug that calls for 18 ft-lb, and the '98-on is a large one (44 ft-lb). One day I took the '97 to...

    Never before seen mess

I redid all of my plastic lines with a good quality Gates diesel-rated hose. (Left the steel ones alone). Anywhere it needed protection, I added split-loom tubing. Working fine so far. But you're right that it does need attention to clamping/tying.

    Where's the boost?

Don't have anything heavy to pull. I will see what it does on my next trip to the sawmill for a load of wood (a little over a ton to stay within GVWR). Flat on the floor at 50-80 mph in 5th gear should be enough load to get to wastegate opening ;)

    Where's the boost?

That sounds about right. That "somebody" is me - I think somewhere earlier in this growing thread, I mentioned that I'd shortened the rod 3 turns :) Also I tried a run with the actuator line disconnected and plugged, and it didn't make any more boost.

    Starter relay question

There are two different kinds and you can't use the intermittent duty ones for continuous. The coil will burn up. For a Holley pump, the common Bosch-style "ice cube" relay has 30 amp contacts and works just fine.

    Where's the boost?

Too many variables for me to keep track of ;) I am almost sure my truck has far more than the 189K miles displayed on the PSOM. So who knows the mileage and wear on the current IP & injectors... But it makes plenty of smoke now with 7 psi boost, so I assume that's quite a bit more than the...

    Where's the boost?

All makes sense except for one thing: if the injection duration decreases due to pump wear, doesn't the volume have to drop also? The volume would stay the same at a shorter duration only if the pressure went UP which is not happening with worn parts. Or is the injector also wearing to a lower...

    Where's the boost?

It'd be about the same by the time shipping costs are factored in. First I'll try a small amount of advance and see, but I'm probably going to end up rebuilding it. So I have to decide whether I want to spend $230 for an offshore cartridge and do it myself, or $450 to have Wes do it guaranteed...
