I would not recommend ether if you have functional glow plugs. And use it carefully even with the GP's disconnected. There are some horrendously abusive videos on here using ether (MINT!) but he doesn't care if he blows the top ring land into the oil pan. You probably do...
Even if it's the valve body causing the shifting problems, can't those be replaced instead of the whole transmission? If it shifts super hard that's usually better than soft and slipping... the clutches are still doing their thing.
Or if it has to come out, might as well rebuild the whole trans...
Just make sure it's diesel-rated (which won't be quite as cheap). Gates' Green Stripe or Barricade should work, can be had at O'Reilly etc. That stuff is rated at 50 psi anyway :)
I'm using a piece of it to connect the left and right banks in front of the intake opening since adding the turbo.
The pressure in the return line is next to nothing... it's an open 5/16" line all the way downhill to the tanks. I think the cover is there more as abrasion/heat protection than actual reinforcement.
I think my recent factory-turbo installation has a small leak at the infamous slip joint... Exhaust leaks have a very distinctive "spitting" sound, generally not metallic or ringing, due to the fast rise of the pressure pulse. Can you record the noise?
Yes, the limit's 26K before a CDL is required.
But I think the legal limit for our trucks is 17K (auto) and a ridiculously low 14K (manual) for the same truck, probably because Ford didn't want to replace clutches under warranty for people who don't know how to use them.
Anyway, if you're...
Not only that, you'd be in deep kimchi if you're involved in an accident and the insurance company finds out you're WAY over the GCWR for your truck + trailer... and the bigger the claim, the closer they look.
Our trucks can get overloads moving, but can they keep them stable on the highway -...
Obviously with the glow plugs out, there won't be a problem! But that wasn't part of the original plan, or at least was not stated explicitly. I would rather err on the side of giving conservative advice, than to assume everyone knows as much (or more) about engines as I do
Drove to the sawmill for well over a ton of wood blocks. I still have the rears pumped up to 70 psi and it rides like a tank when empty, but actually feels pretty good on our lousy dirt roads when fully loaded.
Nice to have a turbo, even though it'll only make 6 psi (worn out and I think I've...
Interesting... I was wondering where to get one for my turbo valve cover. Thanks! ;)
The ebay item 223403762758 says it's for a "1994-1996 Ford F-250 F350 7.3L IDI Diesel"... think you need a little editing there :D
If you don't mind, I'll jump in too ;) Don't spray too liberally. Hydrolock or runaway can be a real problem with too much oil in the cylinder.
Also I would strongly recommend turning the engine over with a breaker bar, not the starter, for at least two revolutions. Much easier with the GP's out :)
I'm aware of the bolt length issue (hitting the gear). I bought a Gates pump from Rock Auto and the two bolts it came with were too short to properly engage the front cover. At least that's what I remember from nearly a year ago when I replaced the worn-out one ;)
I have to wonder how much current your GP's are actually drawing. The long heat times (and multiple cycles needed) sure sound like they're not getting hot enough.
Do you have a suitable shunt to measure the actual current draw?
If not, what does your dash voltmeter show while the GP's are...
That's interesting, I thought most recommendations on here were to use sealer on the top center bolts only. Now I can't remember if I put it on all bolts, or just the top two... might take a look with a mirror.
What passageway do the bottom two bolts go into? Coolant or oil splash? If it's oil...
Ethylene glycol isn't that toxic... I've practically bathed in it (accidentally) on numerous occasions while changing coolant in tractors, cars, trucks... never got the drain plug out yet without it running down my arm somehow ;) And I haven't woken up dead yet!
However, drinking only about 6...
Prestone (green) has always been, and is still, ethylene glycol. They added a bitterant for a really unpleasant taste.

So is Peak Fleet Charge...
Probably head gasket.
Your pressure tester might put 20 psi on the cooling system. Combustion pressure is far higher than that, by two orders of magnitude... and going in the other direction (cylinder to water jacket).
I had a turbo inline-six once that ran fine for hundreds of miles UNLESS I...
