Sounds like air needs to be purged. Did you run it with the heat full blast and the cap off till the thermostat opened? Haven't done it in a while, but I think that would do it. Somebody else will chime in. Where in in Jersey?
Take the fss off and bench test it. While it's open check out the metering valve. If fuel is going in but not out, it's in the pump. Did you try starting it with the jumper wire and not the wire in the harness?
Did you say you replaced the water separator on the firewall, or bypassed it. That is a big air leak if used. Most people bypass that . It's on my list. Once you pull that ring you're bound to get air.
Did you try cracking open an injector line while turning the engine over? Just to see if you get fuel out of the line. Either have someone turn it over or use a remote starter switch and press in the schraeder valve on the filter head to see if any fuel is coming up. Still sounds like the...
Is the fuel shutoff solenoid hooked up? On top of the ip should be 2 conections. Both have red/ yellow stripe wires iirc. The shutoff is the one closer to the front of the truck. A quick way to check if you're getting power, or if the solenoid is any good is by taking a jumper wire with two...
So an update. Turned the fuel down one and a half flats. Smoke is 95% gone. Get a little bit when I accel hard. And It actually feels a little bit peppier. It responds a little quicker when I accelerate. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks. I think I have the everyday stuff. Will look for the extreme. This motor runs awesome. It drives me crazy when something like this happens. I need it to be correct or I won't be happy till it's fixed. I've never had a truck that smoked; even a little.
Thanks Wes. I only put 600 miles on the truck since I've got it together. I think I'm still blowing chunks out of the fuel system that have been in there for the 6 years it sat. Just replaced the rear tank cause it was rusted out and spreading super fine silt throughout the motor. Just put in my...
You don't always get leaking fuel. The lines pull in air. If they are braided, look for darkness or feel them for brittleness. I don't like braided myself
I forgot about doing the atf. Going to have to drop some in when I fill up. Possibly pulling a trailer out to PA this weekend so I'll have a good 2-3 hrs each way to blow it out.
I get a good haze when I accelerate hard. Not black, but a dark gray. I picked up a pulse timing unit that I use with a timing light. I set the advance to 8 and It's dead on @2000rpm. Was wondering if I was over fueled. Maybe turn the pump down a half a flat. Runs great though.
Just wondering if my slight smoking issue could be from the pump putting out too much fuel. I remember reading another post saying the 6.9 pumps were underfueled. So when I put in the rebuilt I used the 7.3 pump. It runs good but gets a little smokey on acceleration. Not black, but gray. Wanted...
Right now I'm at 8 degree. It's starting to get better. I'm taking her out regularly to the interstate to hammer the cobwebs out. Also I pulled the injectors to have tested. I found one bad leaker. Got them all popped and cleaned up. Found out the likely reason for the clogging. My back tank...
Yeah but the height of the seats are the same? I want to do the same thing. No pick and pulls around me. Don't even think they have them here in Jersey.
So I took the truck on the highway today. Ran it at 2800-3000 rpm for 45 minutes. Before I got there I noticed it wasn't smoking on the hills. Stopped at a few lights, nothing. All the way home nothing. So I;m thinking maybe the italian tuneup did the trick. I was happy as hell. Like I had a...
