Truck died when switching gears, can’t figure out why!

I put a pint of the Power Service white bottle additive in each tank at each fill up, along with a pint of Walmart 2 cycle oil for extra lubricity.

Can anyone recommend a PSOM repair place?

    Thanks, I've contacted them.

Can anyone recommend a PSOM repair place?

Can anyone recommend a PSOM repair place? There are a lot advertising that service, does anyone have any first hand experience with any of them? I'm starting to think my PSOM may be the cause of my shift problems in the ambulance. I swapped in another used PSOM and the problem hasn't recurred...

    C6 Lock up torque converter.

@raydav, what's the right stall speed for an e4od behind a NA IDI?
  5. nelstomlinson

    C6 Lock up torque converter.

Sounds like the C6 would need a new input shaft, and a new valve to route pressure through it, plus some way to control it. To avoid building a new valve body, valve and controls would have to be external. Could they really do that, plus the locking tc, for $500 extra? Nah.

    C6 Lock up torque converter.

So, XOLATEM, the e40d lockup tc locks with hydraulics? I'd wondered how that worked.

    C6 Lock up torque converter.

There's a 10 speed RoadRanger on ebay for about $3200 as often as not. You'd just need the right bell housing...

92 7.3 Driveshaft keeps sliding back out of carrier bearing

In '92, would they still have had some stock of the old-style C6 indicators? Or would they have been using the newer style for everything? This is Ford, after all. If the truck came with the e4od, it would have an OD off button, either on the end of the shift lever or on the dash. How 'bout it...

Oil change without removing oil filter

I have some old IDI filters I was gifted. I could put half dozen in a box and get a quote from the post office on shipping, if anyone wants to take a chance on'em. Don't know how they've been stored, don't know much except they're older Frams for our IDIs, not Powersmoke. I'd be happy to...

Oil change without removing oil filter

With all the blowby from our old engines, it's hard to believe that any oil won't get overloaded with carbon in 10k miles. Has anyone sent off oil to be analyzed? If you're going for extended intervals, maybe get it tested at the halfway mark one time, see what that looks like.

    Arctic Ambulance

Most of the winter our snow is a dry dust, doesn't stick much, but definitely drifts. At least the drifts don't get rock hard like up north.

    Arctic Ambulance

Yes, that's the downside to high color temp lights. We'll have snow soon, and then we can see a lot better at night. Edited to add: We don't get much wet snow or freezing rain here in the Interior, so I'm not too worried about the lenses icing up. Don't let them get above freezing and there's...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Sometimes good enough isn't very good at all.

    Arctic Ambulance

I stayed up late enough last night to drive around in the dark a bit. I had the lights adjusted a little high, got flashed by oncoming drivers, so I stopped and adjusted them down a bit. Success! Now the road signs aren't lit up on low beam, but are on high. Nobody flashes me. The cutoff is WAY...

    Arctic Ambulance

For the price of the Aussie kit you could buy some smooth face replacement housings and a set of those Morimoto LED projectors. I might yet do that for my brown truck. In the mean time, the brown truck has new housings with Hella bulbs, that's merely poor, instead of miserably inadequate.

Holley is selling Morimoto LED sealed beam replacements. I bought a pair for my Mercedes, and so far so good. Might be good for a bullnose, but I haven't found anything ready made for the bricknose.

Unfortunately there aren't many headlight choices for the bricknoses.

Some of my trucks have working locks. I think.

I got projector headlights from Vantage Optical. The old ones were hazy, and lousy. Before: After: I've also gotten a pickup instrument cluster and stuck the speedometer from it into the van cluster. That frees up the van speedo to be sent off for repair. I'll start working out the wiring...

Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

So, I got what is supposed to be a diesel pickup cluster with tach and speedo. The speedo part number is FU2 rather than FT2, otherwise the same as the van's. I'll start working out the wiring differences to jam it in. In the mean time, I've stuck the speedo from the cluster into the van, and...

I have one of those pump rotator thingies. I'll try to trace it on graph paper for y'all.

I'll measure the offset on the van rims, and on the plow truck rims. The current van tires are in good shape, so that's a few years off.

Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

I really don't want it on my dash, and I really, REALLY don't want it on the column, not even with a hose clamp.
