    hydroboost troubleshooting help

You might want to get one of those PS filters too, just in case. They are generic filters that go inline in the return side(probably steering return, not HB return for you) and keep crud and bits from wearing out your new pump.

Fabricating a t3 or t4 flange onto ats up pipe

HX35s are just way too small for our application. Too big of an engine - it chokes off the top end.

    7.3 IDI more issues

It's injectors or IP. Retarded timing on at least one cylinder(bad injector) or on all(stuck cam ring in IP).

    Timing cover crank seal problems

what would be best is to pickup one of those air filter restriction gauges(they had them on the factory turbo setup); they tell you a lot. Mainly because it won't make anywhere near the vacuum at the intake until you are foot-to-the-floor, 3K RPM running maximum boost. That's where you'll be...

    Timing cover crank seal problems

I'd check the CDR setup first, make sure it's nice and clean, spring isn't broken. Next, make sure your air filter is clean - Think, the purpose of the CDR is to prevent runaway at a high vacuum level(running on fumes). You have a plugged air filter, turbo starts drawing enough of a vacuum to...

Dana 50 TTB knuckles on Dana 50 SA center section - Possible?

I'm curious here. Has anyone attempted to swap Dana 50 TTB knuckles(everything from the ball joints outward) onto a later-model Solid-axle Dana 50? I found(and passed up) one at a Pick & Pull for <$200, because I couldn't confirm it would work. Looks like the bottom Ball-joint is the same, top...

    hydroboost troubleshooting help

I'd really be thinking crushed line or something's backwards. If I can have a SD hydroboost unit mounted to a stock '88 F-250 MC with the stock, single-return pump work... Getting hot on the highway(with nothing being used) really sounds like a restriction to flow.

So what did you do with your truck today?

One of these days I'd love to find cables that actually /work/(and don't sieze up) and /fit/, then my E-brake might actually work again. That's been my problem from Day 1 with Big Red - Swapped out a cable for a parts store cable(original was siezed) and... it won't stay in place on the wheel...

    Turbo Boost and highway speeds.

The guy I quoted(not the OP) has an E4OD. With the OP, he'll probably be in 4th towing, but there was never anything telling you *not* to tow in 4th, unlike with the E4OD and ZF5

Carter P4070 Electric fuel pump failures.

Evidently, if you need to run an electric pump, install two of them and an on-off-on switch or something. Meanwhile, my $30 mechanical pump just keeps on chooching!

    Bronco 7.3 idi Turbo Build

I was thinking about one myself, but I don't see why we can't just keep the bronco frame, axles etc and just drop the motor straight in. The TTB axle under a 4x4 bronco is what... a Dana 44? Just like the Dana 44 in my '88 F-250 single cab? Probably would need to add stiffer springs to the front...

    Early E4OD identification / parts

Oh? Are you sure? Got any info on this? The only thing electronic inside the E4OD is the solenoid "pack", which can be swapped out easily. Assuming it *didn't* get swapped out, what are the differences between late and early E4OD in the solenoid pack? I know the 4R100 solenoid pack is slightly...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Just thought I'd add another mod I did last night - I added an ebay "line lock" to the front brakes. It's effectively a 1-way check valve with a solenoid; engage the solenoid and fluid only flows into the brakes, not from them. So you power it up, press the brake pedal and it 'locks' the brakes...

    Early E4OD identification / parts

That happened as well - he grabbed a spare speed sensor from my pile of random stuff and used that. That was also where I got to see the gear inside. As far as *who* remanned the trans, no clue. The previous owner had a dealer take care of it, 350,000 miles ago(truck has 500,000 miles on it)...

    Steering column help

I know it's not the "right" fix, but on one truck I just got so fed up with it breaking *again* that I just cut the metal rod, bent it upwards about half an inch from the top, and just use that as my switch. Key does nothing; the rod on top of the column is my "key" switch.

    Hard starting

Here's the thing - how long do the glow plugs cycle for? If it's less than like 10 seconds when cold, and the "after cycles" are just "click-click, click-click"(it's not staying on for at least a half-second each time), your glow plug controller is short cycling. Air intrusion usually...

    Turbo Boost and highway speeds.

Not to hijack, but make sure to tow *in OD* once you install the turbo. The RPM is too high in 3rd to give you any benefit from the turbo(fuel economy and power wise). You'll go faster, cooler, and get better economy. This information is straight from a Banks Sidewinder IDI info post I found a...

What do y’all pull with your truck?

What year(approx), how many axles? That sounds like a *big* mobile home. A friend of mine pulled a 10x50 '50s mobile home about 30 miles with my 92 IDI; but that mobile home was actually designed to be *mobile*, with a non-removable tongue, 3 6-lug axles(Not MH axles) and legal lights on...

What do y’all pull with your truck?

About the heaviest I've pulled that I know the weight of is my Bobcat M970 on a triple-mobile-home-axle beavertail pintle hitch trailer. I'm figuring about 16K behind me, so 22K total or so. I was definitely not going any faster than 60 with that down the highway(poor brakes too), and slowed...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Well.... Somehow, it's working. How long, though... we'll see. After my FX15 compressor(original R12 setup) on my '93 decided to give up it's seals, and some experimentation, I've got something working! I've got a FS10 compressor from the JY, replaced the orifice tube with one *not* covered in...

    Early E4OD identification / parts

A friend of mine has a '97 PSD(Not an IDI, but bear with me...) with E4OD. Well, it's lost 2nd gear(but 2nd works manually), and I found that 2nd gear in the pan(filter totally clogged with bits), but otherwise it's working, so it needs some new clutches. Here's the problem: The trans is 2x4...

    Banks Turbo Flange??

I don't know... Maby call and ask Banks? I personally could use a spare flange myself, so if you find one let me know.

Throttle loss when engine is warm

Another thing - If it only does it when warm, try using a jumper wire to jump the two top terminals on the IP together(rear = cold advance, front = fuel shutoff). If the return is clogged or keeping too much pressure inside, you can definitely have no power and dying.

    Whiteish blueish smoke at WOT

IMHO, yes. I use a pressure tester and re-shim them as needed to get the pressures to match. HOWEVER, what I find is that old, worn injector nozzles(the bit that wears) will wear at different rates and within a few thousand miles they will 'drift'. If you can, the best thing to do(aside from...

    Whiteish blueish smoke at WOT

I do want to point out one more thing, in case you are wondering: Unlike in a DI engine, spray pattern isn't critical in an IDI; the precup will vaporize the droplets. However, what is important is that all 8 injectors do the same thing, at the same time(pressure). "Pintle-less" stage-1...
