Yeah, I am 6'4" and it is a bit tight, though useable, I was thinking of a remodel at one point to make it a bit more suited to my dimensions...

For Sale: 1989 Ford Camper Van, 7.3 IDI, Hypermax, E4od

I drove it on an extended cross country trip in 2012, about 6k miles in 2 weeks, since then I have probably only logged a few thousand miles since then, a few short trips and then mostly local to tow the trailer to Home Depot or whatever. I sent you a PM 1988Diesel

Dual tanks, they are i believe 18 and 19 gallons or something like that, Switch works fine, the front tank sender is flakey, the rear seems fine, I usually run them 200-250 miles and then switch and I haven't run them out when I do that.

its between 16 and 19, I got 16 towing the trailer in the picture with about 3000lbs in it cross country, it will do a bit better empty, around 17+, I have seen 19 for a tank occasionally, but that was usually lower than highway speed, like cruising 45-50 on back roads.

Thanks, I have tried to keep it clean and in good order, it shows its age, but pretty gracefully for the most part. The lighter colored cabinet replaced the fridge, which I could never get to be reliable, I use a Dometic electric cooler instead, only draws about 2 amps and has been more...

Yeah, the only current issue is the injector return caps, which is only a problem when it sits for a while really, they aren't too bad. The batteries are also getting old, but seem to be doing fine.. I drove it to CT and back 2 years ago, and like I said, I would not hesitate to do it again at...

For Sale: 1989 Ford Camper Van, 7.3 IDI, Hypermax, E4od

Thanks, I would rather have an Oilburner get it, then I know it will run many more miles... It would be a good deal just for the drivetrain, pretty low miles compared to many.. Missouri is only an easy 2 day drive.... haha, maybe I should take a last roadtrip... JwS

    Should I switch gear ratio?

I did exactly the swap you are thinking about a few years ago, first off Tjsea is right, the van axles are narrower and have different spring seat locations than the the pickups, so you can't swap the whole axle from that truck, but the internals are of course the same. I didn't see as much mpg...

    What am i?

Yeah, you are looking at the clutch/torque converter cover (not sure if you are automatic or manual), lots of stuff can leak out of there. Sometimes leaks from other places find their way there before they actually drip off, Take a careful look at the back of the engine on the drivers side...

Epic Road Trip with 1990 7.3 IDI - Some questions about maintenance on the road.

First off, the truck is starting under tough temperature and altitude conditions, so there can't be too much wrong with the glow plug system, compression, or fuel delivery, so no need to get the dude too worried about that. The clicking of the glow plug system on the post 89 trucks is normal...
