    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

Sooo..It's fixed! It turns out the tan/white wire and the brown wire were switched. So the illumination was receiving constant 12v. Apparently with this configuration everything still turns on , the illumination just won't turn off. :rotflmao I vaguely remembered having a wiring issue with the...

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

Unfortunately I tossed the old switch. However, I honestly don't know if the illumination has ever worked in this truck since I've owned it. It's been out for awhile and I don't remember it actually going out so it may have been that way since I bought it. It was a small issue that didn't...

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

The only wires that make any difference with the illumination is the Tan/White wire ( Pin R ) and the Blue/Red ( Pin I ) . Removing the others wires made no difference. I was trying to see if anything was cross feeding power to those pins somehow.

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

Is this the correct wiring diagram? My plug is wired differently but it says it's for a '94 which should be the same. I will have to double check but I'm pretty sure my tan/white wire goes to pin R which runs straight to the rheostat.:dunno

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

I pulled the radio fuse just to make sure because I am running out of ideas. It didn't change anything of course. I inspected each wire at the plug and they all look great. I pulled each wire from the plug , one at a time , to see if I could isolate the issue. No changes. I have no clue what it...

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

I meant with the switch removed from the dash. Not with the stalk pulled out. Or am I missing something? It's been hard to take everything in with my toddler ... doing toddler things LOL

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

I've been trouble shooting it with the switch out so I'm sure nothing external is touching it.

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

Ok , gotcha. For some reason I thought you guys were saying the cluster illumination would still have power with it pushed all the way in. So I was trying to figure out how the rheostat portion was supposed to turn it off. So the cluster illumination should only turn on with the switch pulled...

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

With the switch unplugged the lights turn off. And with the fuse pulled the lights turn off. I've inspected the wires and they all look good. I guess where I am confused is what actually turns the power off to the illumination. If there is constant power to the dimmer , and the only thing...

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

So when the dimmer is rotated it should dim down then turn off? It will dim down but it stays slightly illuminated.

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

So if it isn't key on , and is actually constant , what actually turns the cluster illumination off? I did pull the cluster fuse so the batteries don't drain while I figure it out. I was thinking it may be the ignition switch . But if it isn't key on powered , I'm not sure what it could be at...

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

This is a 92 , different setup. The headlight dimmer isn't on the floor. However , I am talking about the cluster illumination dimmer , which is part of the headlight switch. I have tried several switches , even different brands , and they all get hot and the illumination stays on.

    Headlight Dimmer Switch Issues

My cluster illumination was not working but everything else controlled by the switch worked fine. I finally got around to replacing the switch today. The cluster illumination will not turn off now. Ignition off , key out , cluster stays illuminated , and the dimmer portion of the switch gets...

I'm back in the IDI game!

Little update on the truck.. She's been running great! There is practically zero smoke at wot / hard pulls. The max I can get the egt to is 600*. There is definitely room for more fuel. But @typ4 's turbo is working a little too good so I'll wait to add more fuel until I do head gaskets / studs...
