    '12 VW TDIs

Well, we ended up buying one. So far 37K and enjoying every mile. Summertime highway mpg averages around 50 mpg depending on driving habits and speed. Wintertime average is more like low 40s and the overall average we see is about 44-45 mpgs with pretty good power. We have the 6-speed...

    Clutch time

I don't believe so, but suppose it could be. It is a small but steady leak that has been there for years. Not sure if it is leaking enough to cause that.

    Clutch time

$1k is labor and parts with conversion to SMF. OIL is what's leaking. Thanks

    Clutch time

Well I'm afraid it might finally be time for a new clutch. It has been shuddering a little for the past 20K or so, but it's finally starting to get worse to the point where I don't fully trust it. I won't be doing the work, but have a transmission shop next town over. They quoted about $1000...

    10W-30 OK over the summer?

Hey, I ended up not driving my truck much over the winter and only have about 500 miles on the Rotella T5 10W-30 semi-syn that I use over the winter months. Is it OK to keep this oil in over the summer since I don't have many miles on it or should I change it out for 15W-40 that I normally...

    Manual > Automatic MPG's

We just got a 2013 TDI with the 6 speed manual. With 3K on the car now we are seeing about 42-45 mpg tank average. Highway mpg 46-48 mpg, in town 40-42 mpg. Should be even better once it is broken in. We have hit 50 mpg highway on the level and going the speed limit. This is on a Sport...

    Hurricane Sandy My Experience

Sorry to hear how the storm has really affected you. I work for a power company here, but the damage we had wasn't anything like you had down there. Have patience, in time things will get better. I wish you the best of luck.

    Tool for 5/16" IP bolts

Well it sounds like I wasn't the only fool asking around for a 16-point socket.LOL Actually, I was able to loosen up the 3 9/16" nuts with just a regular wrench, but it was kind of a battle.

    Tool for 5/16" IP bolts

Correct I got the 16 pt socket idea from the injection servicing article. I'll get the 12 pt one instead, no wonder it was so hard to find! Thanks all for the help.

    Tool for 5/16" IP bolts

So what do you all use to remove the 3 bolts holding the IP to the timing gear? I can't find a 16-point socket or wrench anywhere local so far. Tried the local Napa, Sears, Lowes, Fastenal, and the typical response I got was they didn't really know a 16-point tool existed. Any idea where you...

Any help with IP in Maine/New Hampshire?

Are there any members in the ME/NH area who would be willing to help me install and time an IP? I'd be willing to pay someone who knows what they are doing. Having trouble finding a diesel shop in the area that still knows how to time these old IDIs. Had a shop install a Uhaul IP and now the...

Replaced injectors, now engine has knock

Well after reading icanfixall's post and reading Mel's article a couple more times I think I will attempt to replace the pump. The removal and installation sounds more straightforward now but the aligning up or timing afterwards is what I am not sure about. So the slight knock my engine...

Replaced injectors, now engine has knock

I could use some good advice here. Today I replaced my injectors that were original with 162K on them along with return lines, caps, o-rings. I did not replace the pump yet which is original also with 162K. I do have a replacement U-haul pump I'm just not convinced I can do it myself. So...
