Found this in my radiator...
My guess would have to be a pressure / flow restrictor for your heater core. I'm not sure if these came with them from factory or not though. I have not seen any on my trucks.- Alberta_Mud

1985 E250 6.9 running warm
I had a 84 and when the voltage regulator was going the gauges would set randomly. A side note worth mentioning on my 92 is that it would run hot especially with a light load - would overheat with anything heavy. Had the injection pump rebuilt and new injectors and the temps went way down...- Alberta_Mud

Dbl7405 filter install
I like the idea just for the extra cooling without adding a oil cooler. But then again Just about all of my fords have a dana 60 on them now or came with one.- Alberta_Mud
