sweet.

so the only thing it wont do is shut the cruise off with the clutch then, but i just have to hit the brake instead? Will my cruise still work?

Is there even any wiring that goes to/ with the zf five speed besides the clutch interlock?
clutch and cruise switches take their input off the master cyl pushrod. I don't have the clutch interlock enabled in any of my trucks, so I can't help you there if you like that feature. the cruise defeat can be piggybacked onto the brake light switch wiring. your donor truck should be able to provide that part of the electrical. oh yea....the only electrcal the ZF sees is the reverse light switch.

on my idi i have the neutral safety switch wires spliced together under the hood.my cruise still works, just tap the brake and it shuts off.it works perfectly.

and yours was an auto correct?

So if i get the psd pcm i shouldnt have to screw with cruise at all? Or will i still have to either wire correctly the clutch interlock or splice them together right?

yes mine was an auto.you will still need to splice the neautral safety wires for the truck to start.if you dont you will have to open the hood and short the solenoid with a screwdriver to start it.i sent you a pm with my friends email.contact him and he should be able to answer most of your questions as well.just tell him that rich told you to contact him.

1 thing i forgot is if you get an IDI donor truck you will need to find a PSD flywheel.better off spending the money and getting the singlemass flywheel and clutch set.

ok good just wanted to make sure you knew that.the hardest part of the swap is tracking down all the parts wich is why a donor truck is the best route to go.you get the pedals, hydraulic setup, tranny, crossmember, drive shaft, tranny hump and if you get a psd donor youd get the ecm, flywheel and clutch as well.but with a92-93 idi all you need to hunt down is the ecm and flywheel and clutch setup.

ive got the price to 800 bucks for the donor. Plus 250 for the pcm. plus 500 for clutch set. plus 100 in gas to go pick it up. That puts us at 1650 for the parts needed plus give 500 cushion for possible replacement of hydraulics etc etc.

That puts us at 2150 just in parts.

I just remembered im going to loose 150 rpms in the process if i do it as well because the zf is only .77 or .78 were as my e4 is .71

Depending on what racer-x comes back with for a super beef rebuild kit/ converter will depend on wether i do it or not.

The only thing im worried about is the engine and more or less safety features still working correctly.

I forgot to mention that since my truck was a government truck it has that factory ford rpm controller. Is that still going to work if i swap to a five speed?

lets see if this will work heres the conversation i just had with my friend that has done the swap

Wild650Cat (2:59:50 PM): hey
F450sprdty (3:00:18 PM): whats up
Wild650Cat (3:00:27 PM): did u tell someone to email me
F450sprdty (3:00:31 PM): yes
F450sprdty (3:00:46 PM): i figured you could help him with a zf swap on a psd
Wild650Cat (3:00:53 PM): ya
F450sprdty (3:01:12 PM): hes going from auto to zf and was wondering about the electrical and ecm
Wild650Cat (3:01:17 PM): ya
Wild650Cat (3:01:23 PM): see i left everyting alone
F450sprdty (3:01:52 PM): he needed to know if the auto pcm will work or if he needs the zf pcm
Wild650Cat (3:02:14 PM): i twill work, but if he has teh tde1 code, it will lope like crazy when u start it!!!
Wild650Cat (3:02:27 PM): i had to put a 1st gen chip in to bump the idle to 725 to cure the lope
Wild650Cat (3:02:38 PM): it will keep loping until u give it gas to level out
F450sprdty (3:02:53 PM): like i figured,you would know
Wild650Cat (3:02:58 PM):
Wild650Cat (3:03:04 PM): 97's do it
Wild650Cat (3:03:09 PM): 96 and below won't lope like that
Wild650Cat (3:03:25 PM): it was cheaper to do that then to mess around wiht buying a new ecm and harness
F450sprdty (3:06:21 PM): ok did you let him know or should i post it for him?
F450sprdty (3:08:15 PM): what about the factory high idle controller like you have?
Wild650Cat (3:09:21 PM): i don't have one
Wild650Cat (3:09:24 PM): it wont' work
Wild650Cat (3:09:28 PM): post it for him
Wild650Cat (3:09:45 PM): some reason when i had mine, it still didn't recognize it was in park
Wild650Cat (3:10:00 PM): best bet is to ditcht htat fact controller, and then use a chip
Wild650Cat (3:10:30 PM): unless he cacn get a wiring harness and ecm
Wild650Cat (3:10:34 PM): but its far and few beteween
F450sprdty (3:10:44 PM): ok im posting it.you were online so i couldnt ask you so i gave him the email to contact you
Wild650Cat (3:11:12 PM): tde1 lopes if u don't bump the idle up
Wild650Cat (3:11:14 PM): its a 97 right
F450sprdty (3:13:05 PM): dunno
Wild650Cat (3:13:12 PM): well thats the scoop
Wild650Cat (3:13:33 PM): have to wire the park wires together to trick it that its in park all the time so the truck will start
F450sprdty (3:13:51 PM): i told him that already
Wild650Cat (3:13:53 PM): also, there is a ujumper uinder the dash to wire in a neutral safety switch
Wild650Cat (3:14:06 PM): the auto harness uses a plastic plug over the connector
Wild650Cat (3:14:21 PM): that way ur motor won't race if ur in cruise and hit the clutch
F450sprdty (3:15:10 PM): will that just plug into the switch on the pedal?
Wild650Cat (3:15:33 PM): yup
F450sprdty (3:15:50 PM): ok
Wild650Cat (3:15:51 PM): u need hte switch though
Wild650Cat (3:15:58 PM): can be from gasser
F450sprdty (3:16:19 PM): will that also cure the no start without the plug on the auto tranny plugged in?
Wild650Cat (3:16:27 PM): no
Wild650Cat (3:16:33 PM): actually maybe yes
Wild650Cat (3:16:44 PM): when i did mine i never hooked up a neutral safety switch so i dunno
F450sprdty (3:16:56 PM): ok so he may still need to splice the 2 wires under the hood like i did to mine?
Wild650Cat (3:17:03 PM): ya

man that was fast.

its starting to look not so good. There is so much little bs stuff.

But if i did get a psd pcm like the 1994-1995 would that solve the lope at startup problem? Would that let my idle controller still work?

So the clutch interlock switch is already in the auto harness its just covered up? Will my donor truck have the needed plug and play switch?

the donor truck will have the switch.i wouldnt bother with the factory high idle controller.unless your truck has an engine driven air compressor or a hydraulic system on it the idle controller is useless.if you really want a high idle id do as he suggests and chip it.get the zf pcm and it wont lope.but with a chip with the zf programs should also take care of that.for example my pcm in my psd is naw4 but my chip was programmed for tde1.i now have a tde1 ecm.the chip will overwrite the ecms stock programming.

what reprogram for what reason?

If i had my zf psd 94-95 pcm wouldnt that solve all the problems? Why wouldnt my idle controller work?

or are you trying to tell me i can have my auto pcm reprogrammed to work with the zf?
