I am looking to rebuild or swap out my zf 5 transmission. I have found another one off of an IDI pickup with a 7.3. I have a 1995 7.3 Powerstroke that is 2wd.
Where do I look to see the numbers on my tranny?
Here is the specs on the one I am looking at, and would this one work on a 95 powerstroke? Thanks for any help on this.

S5-42 ZF transmission. This transmission was bolted to a 7.3 Desiel engine.
ZF parts list No. 1307 050 038
total ratio 4.14-0.77
Transmission serial # 1058797
Ford Part Number E8TA 7003 ARA
Build date: 020588
Speedo gear 8
Transmission is set up for 2 wheel drive but you can change the rear housing easily from your own to make it work with 4x4 or trucks equiped with transmission brakes. This tranny will fit trucks made from '88-1995.

The numbers you posted here are pretty much it. It is a fully synchronized 5 speed designed for 420 lbs/ft of torque, built in 1988. Not sure what your Powerstroke produces for torque.:dunno What more info do you need?

Tom, Thanks for the response. I did however just find this on the internet
and it looks like this tranny is a ZF5-42 with a casting # of 1307 rated at 420ft lbs of torque. I think this would bolt right up and work fine, but it also looks like I need to find a ZF5-47 with a casting # of 1317 which is rated at 470 ft lbs. The 95 DI looks like it has 425 ft lbs of torque in stock form which mine is and will probably stay that way.
Here is a link to the information I just found.
Thanks

I wouldn't be too concerned about the extra 5 lbs/ft....but that's just me. I guess you are looking for the S5-47-ZF. Note the S stands for fully synchronized, 5 for 5 forward speeds, 47 for 470 lbs/ft torque capacity (or 420 in the tranny listed above), ZF for the manufacturer....all in the model number. The S5-47-ZF is just a slightly modified version of the same tranny. I got all this from a ZF factory rep. Interesting info on how they designate them. Good luck with your search!
