I agree with others here, open intake, exhuast, and have it timed. The worst I've ever gotten with my truck unloaded was 15.6mpg, which I've gotten the last two fill-ups, but that with me shifting at around 3000 rpms evertime. The best I've ever gotten was 19.2mpg between the two tanks, that was driving slow, like 55mph max, and accelerating slowly as well. All of these are me driving to and from school, about 15 miles each way, and from school to home its about a 1500' elevation change (so theres some good hills going home).

Mine has 4.10 gears and 245 tires instead of 235's. I just looked up the code. And of course and E4OD and 7.3 with the 94 stock turbo. Also, bad front end parts which I'm sure have an affect.

If you can keep your foot out, taller tires will reduce your effective axle ratio. Yours may or may not be taller, you need to look at the second number on your tire sizes for that. The first number 245 is the length from bead to bead, and the second number 75 or 80 or whatever is the percentage of the first number that is in the sidewall. So a 245/70=171.5 in the sidewall, whereas a 235/75=176.25 would actually be a taller tire. Of course the wider the tire the higher the rolling resistance. I run 265/75s on mine.

Actually they found that you get the best MPG when you have the stock tailgate up.

I just saw the myth buster program last night. The mesh tailgate beat all other
variations by 5% improvement in fuel economy. I don't use this option on my trucks, just reporting what the Busters found in their exhaustive study.
