Used ZF-5 speed, Question on checking condition

FordF250 - yeah I'll be doing the transfer case mod while it's out.

what is that mod exactly?

As I understand the lever inside the tcase attached to the pump to keep the pump from rotating just bears against one of the ribs cast into the transfer case. since the pump is "floating" if you will eventually the tab wears through the rib allowing the pump to spin, thus preventing the pump from pumping, thus killing the tcase. The fix is to weld an additional chunk of steel to the pump lever to make a wider footprint of surface area to bear against said rib, thus preventing it from wearing through.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Thinking of tearing yours apart to check on its condition? IMHO you really should do so if you've never done it, that failure can really sneak up on your and criple your truck with little to no warning.
