In 2005 I bought an 89 van for the engine to replace the 460 in my 84 van. The 89 history is unknown, and I have put at least 150K miles on it since. A few years ago I added a remote turbo. The engine uses almost no oil.
I just replaced the injectors, plugs and injector lines.
Here is a cutaway pic of a head - 6.9 by the design of the plug electrical connector, and a pic of the injectors I removed.

From the cutaway I would expect the injectors to be dry. Most of them were dry and one was rusty. Two looked like they had just had the bottom half inch dipped in oil. As I removed them the copper washer was not visible. I wiped one to inspect it, and laid the other on the towel and let it drain to what you see in the pic - second from left. I did not keep track of the plugs original location.
Where did the oil come from?
There is an issue that may or may no be connected. Starting a few months ago, at cold start, there is a huge cloud of grey smoke out the tail pipe and the engine runs rough. After about a half minute the exhaust clears and the engine smooths out. I can then drive it the rest of the day, making many stops, and not see the smoke again. Replacing the above parts had no effect on that. Both crankcase vent oil and turbo oil have the ability of getting to the intake. That should not happen enough to cause the issue but has not been ruled out.
