Ah, so there is a plate under it then. Isn't the factory deal just a rubber hose that snaps in the hole, or is there something sturdy to mount to there?

the one that uses a rubber tube that snaps in is a 6.0, but they can still be RDTed

On a Superduty, take the breather assembly off install new orings, rotate it 180 degrees so the tube heads out the back, then run 3/4" hose along the frame rail to the rear axle, making shure there are no sags in the hose and it is dowhill all the way, moiusture can freeze in it in the winter, and that makes a mess when oil spits out the dipstick tube.
as for the fitting on the air tube, you can use a 3/4" hose cap, or replace the plastic assembly with a 4' piece of pipe I use the pipe because it opens thew hole up to a true 4'.

on an obs truck , no need to rotate the housing as there is not enough room.
just hook the hose on and loop it up and around past the ps pump.
and rout to the rear as above.
as for the air pipe unless you have the updated black tube ( same as early 99 part) you cant put a 4' pipe in because the orange tube is smaller.

FWIW on a IH t444e they dont use have the CCV, just a metal tube that drops down from the breather
