The One Blue Thing
Anybody put a C8.3 in a pickup? How about a DT series International? Heck, you're starting out with almost 1000 ft/lbs of torque from the factory. Could make towing fun with tall gears and over 100 mph!

That is what I am talking about! The only thing I would be concerned about is that thing twisting the frame into a pretzel at that power level. The better part, you can get 1000hp for what it cost to get a Cummins 6BT to 600hp. A quote I heard from Hypermax on a DT466: 1000hp for 10 grand.
Depends on what parts and labor you're doing yourself.
1000hp on a DT466 or 6CT is around 2300 pounds of drive train shredding tork.
I think the easiest, cheapest, funnest big diesel swap would be a 5 ton 6x6 cut down to a 4x4 with the utility bed swap and 52's. Pull out the 855 small cam non-turbo cummins and bolt a turbo big cam 400 with Jakes right back in it's place.
There you go, Some pretty tough running gear, a very nice shifting full synchro 5 speed, 10K pounds empty weight and 1500 lb/ft doing virtually nothing. Cruise all day at 70 MPH towing 40K pounds with ear plugs in.
They have zero creature comforts though. You'd be more comfortable driving a Cat D6 down the road.
