My '84 wasnt wired for a tach. Im guessing you had a plug to hook the sensor to?

yes. plug was just sitting there. it was a little dirty from being under the hood for almost 30 years.

My 84 had the plug even though it didn't come with a tach. I found a sensor a while ago, and plugged it in, but I've never found an 84 factory tach to complete the setup. The junkyards around here (northern MN) never seem to have many diesels in them.
