Well, hows this sound. I don't think I can make it work, but it's worth a shot.

I found two T cases, one off a 1986 and one of a 1988...I THINK both are 1345's. It's not far from me, and the guy that has them is a co worker. He said I can take both for $50 is I think I can make them work.

I KNOW I will have to do some changing around to make a 1345 work where a 1356 was...with a different U joint...but it also has a SLIGHTLY deeper reduction.

Should I keep looking for a direct swap 1356, or swap this 1345 into place?

I thought by 88 they were 1356s but could be wrong. At any rate, the tail housings are longer on the pickup 1356s (i replaced the 1345 in mine with a 1356 from a bronco) and have slip yokes, so unless you can somehow splice the 2 together, you're in for some driveline work. The 56 is generally regarded as better. I got a clearance rebuild off eBay for 400. Best of luck.

That's the problem I am running into. I have a 1356 now, with a slip yoke in the rear. I am only coming across 1345's with the fixed yoke in the rear.

If I can find a 1356, I am going to be all over it, but as it stands right now, upon first look I can only find 1345's.

HOWEVER, I fired an email off to a guy locally who has a 1991 F150 5 speed parts truck....MIGHT be a 1356....got my fingers crossed.

Everything on car-part.com that shows anything shows 1356 for 88. You should be in business.

F150 is a 1356 all Ford F series 150-350 use that case...the one tons, are slightly different in having a PTO output on the front case half which is also Aluminum instead of a full magnesium case that the non PTO models have...

the 88 for 50 should be a 1356 only concern is that it's a manual shift not electric...
