Thanks for the pictures Dave, that's the first time I have seen a Delco starter. I heard that those starters were terrible.:eek::puke: So bad that stores refused to keep them in stock.

For what its worth, I'm loving my Denso starter.:D:D

Dave, where in South Jersey are you situated?

FYI...OSGR stands for "off set gear reduction"......the Denso starter is an OSGR.

The Mitsubishi is not an OSGR. The Mitsubishi is a PLGR......Planatary Gear Reduction

the mitsu starter that came on the idi IS osgr
the mitsu that came on the powerstroke is plgr

there are two plgr starters available for the idi, a copy of the stroke starter, and a leece neville.

Gear Reduction Starter Hands Down. I went through a few direct drive starters on my IDI years ago, then got the Gear Reduction , and it was a big difference. It was an Effortless Start compared to the Direct Drive one.

Plus it sounds cooler,....very important,..LOL

Here ya go.
The origin seems to have its roots in mid-19th century horseracing. When a horse jockey is nearing the finish line far ahead of the competition, "with victory certain", he could drop his hands, and relaxing his hold on the reins and still win the race. "By the late 19th century the phrase was being used in non-racing contexts to mean 'with no trouble at all.

I bought one of these from DB electric. $116.00. Shipped last night should arrive today. Can't believe it was that quick.

On DB electrics website they list both of those starters as OSGR. The one I bought was listed at 2.5KW and the other one was listed as 3.6KW.

Good discussion on starter and I learned what "hands down" means.

The Mitsubishi's that I have seen were all PLGR. Never seen an OSGR Mitsubishi but that certainly doesn't mean they don't exist. Got a picture?

The mitsubishi that came on these trucks, the one in the pictures, is osgr.

The offset isnt as drastic as the nippondenso, but the motor is offset from the starter drive.
