Speedometer was ticking but now doesn’t work.

I have a 1993 F250 7.3 IDI. When I bought the truck the speedometer was accurate but it ticked and dropped when driving constantly at a constant rhythm. About 5000 miles later it just stopped working all together and sits a 0 now. Any ideas what this could be and where I should start looking?

I'm not sure of what all is inside of them, but I would guess at a stripped gear inside it.

Mine ticked before it stopped also. The cable got bound up/twisted somehow and snapped just before where it goes into my C6 tranny. I replaced it and it works fine now.

I believe 93 is all electric from the vss.
