simple nuff....take a cut wheel or what have you for tools, cut the bowl off and grind/sand sharp edges down.

Now that you have a second lid, you can do one and play with it and see if it really does make a diff, then you can work on a nice cowl induction setup!

While on MODS here's a nice one you'll really like!

Or get one from an IDI van... They don't have the soup bowl... Ergo, no cutting and grinding!

That makes me think the soup bowl was for sound reduction purposes, because the van cowl is pretty insulated...

I have cut out the bowl on a few and have never noticed any power or economy gains, I will not be doing it again. My current 84 still has it

I cut mine out, no mpg gains, no power gains... Traded it back for one with the soup bowl... Its just noisy, no gain except cab noise.

My pickup had that throat housing and not the soup bowl. I cut out that housing to make the inlet hole bigger....which was not fun....but anyways it's non restrictive now and I also removed that air deflector plate in there. I did see an improvement in throttle response and power pretty much stayed the same that I could tell. In my opinion, little improvements like this just help the engine breathe better.
