Had a bearing fail the other day and iam in the process of replacing all bearings and seals. Probly going to change fluid in the diff. Iam having trouble removing the outer bearing cup. The bearing disintergrated and I was able to pull everything else off. Any suggestions on how the get it off? Also, should i replace anything in the diff while iam in there? Thanks

not sure i mean if you had a torch and a friend you heat up the outer axle housing then you could pull out the bearing now check your back brakes wheel cylinders brake lines going back there you can check your pinion seal since your that far into it might as well get it outta the way plus check your diff cover for leaks and your vent tube for your axle also just so its not clogged or even if you have one and check your shackles and maybe gas tank straps for rust if you have two tanks.

I mean since your doing that it is just good insurance for yourself that you know nothing is going to take a crap on you in the middle of nowhere or burn up your diff somethings to think about

nah got one even easier. take a welder and run a FAST bead around the inside of the race. DONT let it penetrate. the race will flat fall out. just be really careful with that kind of thing shouldnt even have to beat on it once the bead is run

dont have to run a fast bead--the surrounding metal will absorb most of the heat--and wont damage it--so long as the race aint penetrated

the best thing to do for this----snap on makes a thread restorer,,,,it has a bunch of dies to fit almost any thread,,about 80 clams--and near indespensible!!! serious, have had one for years---theres really no die big enough made for those threads--other than at the sterling factory!!! and they work like a charm!! one end is a vee shape,,with brass inserts,,the other end is on a slide--to adjust up to the thread

Do you know what part number that kit is? I havent seen any thing you discribe. All the kits have die's only, snap on guy didnt know what i was talking about, he showed me a kit (master spindle kit) but it all die's and iam not sure which size it is. I think its metric.

yeah I know what he is talking about the kit he is talking like a uh helly coil to restore threads but something that wont disturb anything just makes new threads.Yeah good luck finding one how long have you had your kit.Because usually snap on doesnt carry them anymore my ex-boss had one for about 15 years and three of the die's had brokenen due to old age and he works with a specific size.so case in point he had to call up hs soon to buy one( he has a crap load of parts being he is the main breakdown specialist in ohio). He said snap on doesnt carry something like that around ohio since low demand and etc. so its only specific area's.

that being said you are better off doing it someother way or having a mechanic do it but that is my .02. I mean maybe its the master spindle kit I dont know anymore its not my line of work.

helicoils are for INTERNAL THREADS--this tool is for RESTORING the threads on larger OUTSIDE surfaces--its called a us thread chaser set by snap on,,they are wonderful--where do you get your info from????
