I don't really see how? Life expectancy of an IDI is about 3-400,000 miles if taken well care of. There's 6.0's with 300k and then there's IDI's that cavitated before 100k. A Duramax will last 3-400,000 miles. And the 6.7 is too new to tell.
You have to remember that you'll only ever hear the bad stories.
Every mechanic and even the Ford dealership mechanic said that they WOULD NOT OWN ONE LONG TERM period, to expensive to maintain long term. A few of them said their customers were going back to gas for their fleets because the new diesel were to expensive and really for them made no sense.
Gas is cheaper than diesel, the new gasser's were getting mileage on par with the diesels and they were way cheaper to maintain.
All the mechanics agreed the performance of the new diesel trucks was awesome but added because of the complex electrical systems the vehicles long term were not what they would own.
These are people who owned the old trucks but will not buy a new one on several fronts, as far as they were concerned they all said to me quietly they were pieces of chit for the work man long term!
And buy the way the comments I made were a joke, it just baffle's me that people still do not understand the real system we live under and how it drives the companies to make products that are designed to pick your pocket in order to stay afloat to service this debt based pyramid system.
