Why would the OCI question be rhetorical? Normally, that question is based on oil analysis or manufacturer's intervals. Fact based, analytical stuff.

That said, 3000 miles seems like a low number to me, even towing. Your truck, of course, but unless; a) you are towing at some huge GCWR, b) are basing this on oil analysis, or c) your engine has some special problem that requires early changes (such as a fuel dilution problem, or excessive sooting), IMO you are probably dumping perfectly good oil. Tection is pretty stout stuff. What I imagine your driving is like is a lot of freeway, which means the oil is kept hot and moisture-free, so acid buildup will be minimal. If you aren't towing at a high level, your oil temp is fairly low, so oxidation will be in a normal range that doesn't require an early change. Soot is the next potential culprit and, again, it depends on the engine and how it's being used. Unless it's being flogged with a heavy load, soot production is fairly low at freeway speeds so the oil should stay pretty clean. Not too many other things that would contribute to "using up" the oil early. Respectfully, there is no advantage to changing the oil early, except to the companies from whom you are buying product. Again, it's your OCI choice to make. Just point out some non-rhetorical reasons to run the oil longer and maybe save you some money.

Love the Model A... that's what you should be cruising in the highways! ( : < )
