Im trying to figure out which water temp gauge to put in the trucks, 120-240 or 140-280.
I try to get the gauge range to where the normal operating temp is close to straight up. That way its easier to tell by glance when there's an issue.

So what temp do these engines run at? 200* +-10* or 230* +-10*?

mine is in the head where the sender used to be and i see 190-205 regularly. got it up to 220 once with it to the floor in second pulling a trailer up a steep hill. i would think you would want the range to at least see the 242 mark if you needed to for the temp light, not that you should ever hang around that zone.

Mine runs from 190-200*, never ever seen it over 200*. My ISSPRO water temp gauge is 100-240*. I think it adequete enough. If I saw my gauge approaching 240* I would A) Chit my pants, and B) Pull over and cool down.

I know I'm digging up an old thread here but from what I gather 242 degrees is the overheat mark for these motors? Now that the weather is getting hotter I am seeing 210-220 in the heat of the day and wanted to make sure that is ok. Normally she runs 195-210.

The hottest temp I've ever reached is 220, but my normal running temp is the same as everyone else has said. I have several auto meter gauges all short sweep electric. I put the sending unit for the water temp right after the thermostat in the cast iron housing.
