1981 VW Rabbit Pickup (Caddy) Diesel 5 speed, with AC. I redid the interior a few months ago and this weekend we got it painted.

I am making it our shop truck. Cheap transportation to go and pick up motors and parts, possibly use for when I buy a truck out of state I will use this to haul the tow dolly, and tow the Rabbit back with whatever truck that I purchased.

But it has to look cool, and be a little different,..so here is what we did:

Painted the lower part with Rock Guard and sanded it down:

Taped it off and wiped it down with Mineral spirits. We also decided to spray some rock guard on the front of the hood.

Then we sprayed it with Krylon Satin Black. Hey it's a shop truck, not a show truck,..

Overall I am real happy with the Krylon Paint job and the whole thing cost me under $150.00 ;Sweet

Very nice finish product for such low investment. What are the mpg #'s? Can't You just put a turbo on that motor?

I forgot about this thread!

Hey EZ, Thanks!,.. I have been getting 45 with the stock motor, the 1.9 should be close to the same thing, if I keep my foot out of it.

It is actually easier to swap a turbo motor in than just add a turbo. Plus the turbo kits for these are VERY hard to find, I have only seen one on E bay and that wasn't complete.

I actually bought the Jetta just for the motor,.:sly
