I have a buddy who is mating a 96 PSD/E4OD to a 50~something Ford pickemup. He wants the thing to run, doesnt give a rip about anything aside from that, and the transmission working. Who either can work the harness to make that happen, or who sells a pre-made harness that is clean??

Best thing your buddy can do is get the truck that the engine/tranny came out of and use it for his donor vehicle for all the chassis sensors and harness goodies he will need.

definately need a complete donor truck.this has been done before but i dont remember who did it or what site they were from.one issue he will have is the speedo.and for the e4od to shift you need the vehicle speed sensor in the rearend.may have to swap an f150 rear axle into it that has that sensor.

The frame he is using is a 89 f350, so it has the VSS in the rear. The remnants of the truck the donor motor came from is long gone, so back to square 1....

Step 1 will be to go to pick and pull and find a donor wrecked PSD and get the harness' out of it.

I failed to mention, and assumed everybody would know, that he has the complete wiring harness from the 96 that the motor/trans came from.

including the dash harness?he will need that as well as the instrument cluster and the little black box behind the glove box.

there is no kit.gotta do it yourself.he will also need the ECM from under the dash, dash harness,PSOM(runs the speedo and makes the tranny shift.if he is using the e40d he will have to get everything from a truck with auto tranny.also needs the IDM(looks like an ECM) that is bolted to the drivers side fender.also needs all the wireing from under the hood as well besides just the engine harness.in other words he will need every piece of wireing in the truck(dash, under hood and engine harnesses).

Ouch, it sounds like it would be a good idea to dump the PSD and go 12V CTD. Bummer for him. Thanks for the info.....

well there is a bit of an easier way but it wont be cheap.get an engine harness,ECM/IDM for a 99 international 4700 with the 7.3 DIT engine.the ECM/IDM is one unit that bolts to the passengers side valve cover on the international engines.you may need the IH valve cover and oil stick and tube.then he can run a 5 speed and not deal with the junk e4od.

As 94f450sd said you can get the harness out of an IH truck or school bus. The chip can also be programmed or replaced. If you need a controller for the E4OD transmission the Baumann unit is independant of the rest of the system and completely programmable. A bit expensive but doable...

He will be bummed to hear he has to cough up more parts ($$$) to get this thing to run. I guess this is what you get for getting into a project without knowing what you are doing.

unless he is doing it himself id be more worried about the labor cost.the tranny computer mentioned could be the most expensive part needed as you can find IH trucks/buses with the 7.3 in them for $1,000.00 if you look hard enough.most places will give school buses away cuz the junkyards wont take them unless they are cut in half.most people and bus companies wont bother with cutting them up.you can also try to find a junkyard that does just truck parts.they usually dont know what those parts are worth and damn near give it away.
