Lift pump issues

I just installed a lift pump yesterday (mechanical). It was a bent arm one, and was installed in the low cam position. After installing it the truck became quieter, and sounded like the timing got retarded. Did the new pump fail? Do new pumps retard timing from old ones. The pump also looks like its leaking, but not from the inlet, outlet, or the vent holes. Thanks.

The lift pump can in no way change the timing. As far as the engine running quieter, you might have been sucking air with the old one. What makes you think it's leaking?

The pump has a fuel drip below it, and has no fuel up above the pump. When I park the truck it has a fuel puddle underneath. It doesn't leak when its not running. If the injection pump wasn't getting fuel from the lift pump then would the truck start good, or run good , or smoke? Thanks.

Probably a leak at the hose connection., but best get up in there and look carefully and make sure it's not leaking out of the housing, might want to smell the dipstick for fuel smell in the oil just in case you got a bum new pump.
