Looking at a 1988 F-250 that does not run. Owner said it lost power and was blowing white smoke from exhaust. Mechanic (not diesel mechanic) told him he thought it was injection pump or injectors. Injection pump would be loss of fuel so would no fuel account for the white smoke? Looking at it tomorrow, problem is no batteries in truck. I don't mind lift pump or injection pump but do not want to fool with Headgasket cost. Here is add. What do you suspect and what else should i look at?

Time to offer $650.00 and steel that rig. You have that much in sheet metal...

Yeah i know i just wish it was running so i could test combustion gases in antifreeze to confirm head gasket. When a truck runs lean because IP is going bad will it cause white smoke?

It will smoke white/grey when the advance piston goes out on the pump, but it will still run. You can't scrape together a couple of batteries to take with you?
