As for the "tone ring", what purpose does it serve ??

If all it does is talk to the anti-lock brakes, I would bypass all that wreck-causing mess and go back to plain old-timey brakes.

Well Sam, I'll certainly give you the benefit of the doubt then, but I have no theories left without seeing it. As long as it's fixed and all is good, then we'll just be glad it was that simple.

I reckon one wheel peels will suck but I got this done for nothing, so how can I complain?? No, I don't have the carrier........

gosh this is a long post for a seemingly minor rear axle problem. but seeing all this support is good to know for future problems. glad to hear your truck is back on the road.

The tone ring is lightly pressed onto the carrier, I am guessing that the ring gear was loose for a little bit and maybe egged the carrier holes, It doesnt take long, personal exp. so they probably swapped it out rather than deal with it loosening up again, thats what I would have done. Better than having Sam stranded.
