The return line from the filter to the number one cylinder return line is for air purging OUT of the filter. It dose not return fuel to the tanks. Nothing flows back into the filter from that line. I ran my engine for about 150,000 miles with no line bleeding off the air from the filter. It was hell getting the air out after a filter change cause ALL the trapped air HAD to go thru the injection pump and return to the tanks. Not fun with a mechanical lift pump but.. It was doable with an electric pump but still took some work. Hope this helps you understand a little more bout the fuel system.
