So I have decided to get another IDI, I sold the crew cab I built several years ago and now I found 2 low miles F250 extended cab 4x4 trucks. Both are Manual 5 speed transmission. A big plus for me and both around 150k miles. Anyhow what should I look for in terms of a possible purchase. I hear about cavitation but not sure how to identify if it.

Any suggestions. I am a pretty good mechanic but still relatively new to the Diesel scene.

thanks in advance

Cavitation can't been seen from the outside of any idi engine. You can test the coolant for the sca and ask if the owner has kept it up. If he gives you that deer in the headlights look then you know it has not been used. That still does not mean the block is junk or about to cavatate either.
