Guess what I found in my oil pan.

I see a rod bolt, probably parts of a piston skirt, an oil 'squirter' and what looks like the relief valve spring from the oil pump.

Ah, engine hors d'oeuvres:eek: It looks like your engine decided to snack on some oil pump parts before proceeding to the main course.

I remember back around 1984 or 85, going into Stoner-Wade and asking Bill (the diesel tech at the time) what "that new truck was doing" in the shop. He said the oil pickup tube bolts had fallen out and the engine ran dry. I don't think my eyes left my oil presure gauge that week. LOL Sorry to see you in such condition. :(

Looks like my buddy from high school was working on your truck! :D
Every time someone left his yard he always had a pocket full of left overs.

Dude, I am real sorry for your luck there. It looks bad. :(

Thanks for the responses guys. As to the size of the image, I had trouble getting it below the 100kB mark but I think its bigger than 50x100 pixels... So when something like this happens, is the block toast or are there some things that can be done to repair it. I found a site that talks about repairing the hole in the block with a new kind of welding material. Also the piston can be replaced, mabye that cylinder will have some damage on it? I am still trying to get the engine from the crane onto the stand. There are apparently some longer bolts that I need to secure it.

That's a pretty good mess, sorry to hear about it. I would scrap the block and start over as it would suck to refill it with good parts only to have the block repair fail, especially considering what pressures and shock these diesels see.

Not to say it couldn't be fixed but you could get a non running complete block cheaper than you could repair that mess I am sure. Wonder why it destroyed itself like this.

Yeah, I got the pan off and I think I can get a shot of the bent rod later.
