looking for a 3/4 ton burban with a diesel. what years have the least amount of electronics. i think i read some have emissions type stuff on them. looking for 1982-1986 maybe the 1987-1993 but i prefer the older body style.

i have a 1990 ford diesel and love it. it doesnt seem to have many electronics on it.

from 1973 to 1991 all burbs looked like the one below.
the ones with the "barn door" butt has the simplest electrical. the tailgate style burb has a very finicky power window system that don't like weight being put onto it. from 1987-1991 crewcabs and burbs stayed with the old body style whereas the reg cab and supercab pickups went to the new body style.

like he said, avoid the tailgates, they are nothing but a pain in the ass.

'83 is a one year only engine. good side is they have a high nickel casting. bad side is most of the items internally are one year only.
you be $$$ ahead getting a barn door 'burb;Sweet
i just realized you live in TX.....go out of state to get a better deal. 'burbs are still a high resale animal in TX. no as much elsewhere.

if you want a 6.2L burb that is fine but the engine has issues. get a 2000 or newer navistar cast 6.5 turbo and replace that tired 6.2.

intake manifold drilling is hummer and van specific.
only part you can use is the shortblock assy. cost.....$6500.
here's some pics of how much of a difference they are. the first one is the pickup style from 91-94. the second and third pics are the late model hummer/van intake.

you can buy a bare block ($1800-2000 for the block, ebay) and heads ($600 for new casting from Clearwater) and use used parts for all others but 6.5 parts are cheap so you may not need used...... the 2000 and 2001 (pre-duramax) used the navistar block and it can be fitted with a DB2 pump. I put one in my 91 2500 'burb to replace the tired 6.2 and ran an SS diesel supply rebuilt 6.2L pump and used an electric lift pump from a 95 to replace the mechanical LP..... a few other mods and it was a powerhouse. not on the level of a modded 7.3 turbo or a powerstroke but it was fast ......'specially with the 'burb's 3.42 gears.
