I have seen several references to overfilling the Getrag by 1 or 1-1/2 quarts

by removing the shifter and pouring through the top.

My Getrag is being rebuilt at the present.

Has anyone drilled/tapped a filler plug in the top of the transmission to facillitate over-filling without removing the shifter??

Would there be any obvious reasons not to do so??

I may even go so far as to add a filler neck in the floorboard so I won't have to remove the shift-boots.

That's too time consuming and too much work for me, I just put the last quart in mine by removing the top bolt on the PTO cover.......

If you have a 2wd it's easiest to put a street elbow in the fill hole. Then you can put a small funnel in the elbow and pour the stuff right in. :)

Is it 1/2 pipe thread or what??

Truck is 2wd with 2" body-lift.

We had a few of these Getrags several years ago and they would get smoking hot on a long haul.

Lost 5th gear on some but I understand the NV's are much worse to lose 5th.
