hey all dimensionally are the 4x4 aod's and c6 the same size?

How do the aods shift etc? Vacuum right? What about when it goes into overdrive? How does that happen? Are they like dodge 47rh's?

Ive contacted a few builders that say their trannies will hold up to the torque of a cummins.

Or i could got with a 4r100, but then how would i control the shifting etc without having any computers at all on my 86?

the aod works off of a detent cable, which controls fluid pressure. you HAVE to have it or you WILL burn up the transmission, no way around it. you could prob make it work but it has to work right or you just junked a tranny. a lot of the old mustang/crown vic/grand marquis/ and so on with a 5.0/aod combo run it and it works but the main reason most there trans go out on there cars is the bushing on the throttle body goes out, which in turn gives the cable play and burns up the tranny due to not the right fluid pressure while driving. dont get me wrong the aod is a great tranny, but i dont think id put it behind a diesel
