With all the posts I've been seeing of the DT swaps, I'm curious as to what all they came in...

You mean where the motors originally came from? Older dump trucks and larger tractors mainly.

Buses, medium duty trucks of all sorts (international) and sizes. That would be the most common.

Larger vehicles from International.Pretty much most of there medium duty trucks, bigger tractors(1086 and stuff like that) and buses like said before. One thing on the tractors, there IP's would need a different governor to make it road worthy.

I was always excited when the isuzu diesel(TC 3.9) at work would break down or need service. We would rent a Freightliner with a DT466 with a 5spd and air brakes to replace it.

Did you find the DT, faster then the isuzu? I know every tow truck drive ill talked to prefers the little mitsu FUSOs to the big DT466. They say it sucks gas and is slow compared to the FUSO.

The isuzu had a lot more pep, it had a 5spd as well. I just prefered the louder rattle/size/power of the DT motor and the hiss of air brakes. :D

I'm sure they are conservatively set to give a very long service life. Those little chinese engines probably will not last as long. Considering that you can get an extra 100 HP out of a DT just by turning up the pump and doing nothing else, sort of hints that they are sleeping giants.

Mel, you should see the size of the main caps! The DT466 is wonderfully over built.

Considering that the DT466's in pulling tractors and trucks are well over 1000 hp and some into the multiple thousands of hp, very capable engine design with enough $$ to throw at it.

Would it be possible to put a DT466 into one of our trucks?

Yes it is possible, it has been doen a couple times in full blown pulling trucks. They are large motors tho, alot bigger than most swap candidates.

These motors respond just as well to minor mods as a 12 valve P-pump Cummins. Simple little things yield massive amounts of power and torque.

Are these DT engine easy to come by? No, I'm not looking for myself, but thought to post this for sale ad just in case someone was looking to try it. I don't know the going rate for one of these engines either, so no opinion on pricing from me...
