An update on that Cardone 90-1006: it died after ~2,500 miles. A piece even fell off during use. Total junk pump. Box brags that it's "100% new"
And the Walmart return window closed 6 days ago. I wish I was kidding. I'll see if a Walmart store manager will override it, since they have the power to authorize it. I have the box still, so they might do it.
I took an exit to check the tow bar etc on the bug, and on an uphill ramp I found I was lacking braking. Went on the nearby truck stop and yeah very poor braking.

It must have failed when going through Vegas. It was fine 30 miles before Vegas this morning when I fueled up, and at the southeast end (Railroad pass travel center) it was bad (about 70 miles).
Thankfully I had the new Dorman from O'Reilly's, the free warranty replacement for the one that got weak after 5 years/25-30k miles (but less weak than the cardone after 2 weeks use/2.5k miles!) so I only had to dig out a few tools and I was able to immediately replace it.
