cold timing advance how do I know if its working

Hey guys , I have the high idle figured out kind of, but how can you tell if the cold advance is working and if its not what do I check first? Also if the high idle and advance are not working where do you look first. I dont quite understand how this is all wired!

update I figured out that my timing advance does work, I hot wired it to the batt and I hear it come on, so I guess now the ? is , is the temp switch that kicks in the idle and timing working?
