:Dwell I've been out of town for week and just finished working on my charging system, after 3 alterators and two regualtors, I found a bad wire in the harness, I've cut out the old fuse links and rewired the whole circuit, I now have15 volts at the alt. and 14.5 at the batterys., thanks for all the thoughts about the problem

Sounds like it was an expensive fix for a simple broken wire but.... I do understand... My charging lite for about a year would come on without any warning. I had 14.5 volts at the alternater and batteries... Nothing was wrong but the lite was on.... finally one nite I was looking things over because the lite came on again. I found the charging circut wire broken at the alternater.... Only found it because of the ark flash in the dark. The wire was only broken after the connection clamp on the connecter. The brass connecter was clamped ******* the plastic coating but the copper wires were broken that clamped to the connecter... Go figure how that happened... all I can think is vibration caused it....:dunno
