Long time viewer, first time poster. I have had several Ford 6.9/7.3 diesels, this is my first GM.

I just bought a 6.5 turbo diesel sudurban. After only a few hundred miles of owning it the motor has developed a smoking problem. Blue smoke, oil. It starts fine with no blue smoke if it has sat a long time, like several hours. However if it sits for between 5 minutes and 4 hours it smokes badly and runs rough, I assume it is running poorly because of all the oil. It has new Glow plugs, a new PMD/FSD relocated to the intake, the lift pump works. The CDR/PCV is temporarily vented to the atmosphere and is not part of the problem.(The new one should be here tomorrow or Monday)

So smoke on a hot start but not a cold one.... Any ideas or things to test?

P.S. I used to have codes for a bad wastegate control solenoid, but that is fixed now. There are now no codes.

Thanks everybody.

The problem developed into a white smoke and now it has a bad head gasket..... Or maybe two problems? We'll see.

Blue on warm startup sound like turbo oil seals.
White smoke can be unburnt fuel also.

Smell the smoke.
