So far this is my list of potential candidates:
My favorite so far. (But also economically unfeasible at 6K a copy) is the 2.8L Powerstroke manufactured in Brazill and it is a stock option for Rangers and F150s down there. It's my favorite because it only weighs like 450 lbs and produces some good power for it's size.
The second more obvious choice is the Cummins 4BT. The simplicity of design is what makes this cool in my book. Here's a pic of one installed in a CJ.
This project is still a long way off. If I were to start it I'd probably piece the whole drivetrain together behind it on a home made stand to ensure all pieces fit and work properly prior to installing it. (Not going another year without wheeling again if I can help it) I need to keep my eye out for cheap potato chip pannel vans for sale. NORM
