Well at least it wont rust with all that oil on it. Really would like to know why this happened too like many others here. Glad it did this at home instead of out on the road some late nite.

So, how long did it hold out before it scattered parts on the ground?

Sorry to hear :(

Have a question about run aways, If you unspun the fuel filter would it run out of fuel before " Boom" You would have diesel everywhere but atleast you didnt blow a motor

Hate to hear that. Hopefully you can figure out the cause.

HS108-
You can cut off fuel to the IP, but if the runaway is internally fed from crankcase oil, nothing will stop it short of cutting off air supply with a wood block.

Ya that is true, i bet it was scary.

I was just thinking if god forbid it ever happens to me or if im ever with someone and it happens

Well my thinking was if you cut fuel, it wouldnt be able to sustain Full RPM on just crankcase oil vapors?? or could it??

Some runaways can be stopped by cutting fuel. All will stop if you can cut off the air going in. Unfortunately, it's hard to cut off the air real quick if the intake is hooked up for normal operation. A CO2 fire extinguisher can be used quickly if you have one. Though my guess is I wouldnt want to be standing real close to try and put one out for fear of catching shrapnel.

Oh yeah, they'll go so fast off of just oil, that'll it'll scatter just from the speed.
Check out some YouTube runaway vids.
