I’m sure I’m not the only one to discover this but I’ve never heard anyone talk about it but a 1” wrench can be fitted on this notch to tighten the belt tighter than I’ve ever seen
Not sure about 1g’s its been over a year sense I’ve seen one

Yeah 1g is similar. But on vans, that's not doable due to the cowl being over the alternator. On my RV, I use a big harbor freight tire iron wedged in to the side of the alternator to tension it. The tire iron has some flex so you can get a feel for not going too far. Works very well.

That’s how I do it. Cant remember which alternator I have, they are different between my 90 and 86, one of them uses 1” and pretty sure the other uses 1 1-8”. Could be wrong though, I’ll check later

There's a thread on here about putting a tensioner on the alternator belt to make it not warble. That's a good idea too.

1” on my 86, which I think has been converted to 3g, and 1 1-8 on my 90, it looks like the high output ambulance alternator but has too many wires to be 3g

Doesn’t look like you need a tensioner/ idler I’m damn impressed I’ve never seen belts this right before atleast in person
