What all has to be changed on a 1997 E4OD to put it into a 1993 truck? They're both diesels. I think the TC is different? Anything else?

Thanks

Solenoid pack, transmission range sensor, and converter need to be changed.

You will need a pre 95 solenoid pack.
Transmission range senor. If you update the plug you can use the new style part. I would go this route.
IDI uses a four stud converter, PSD uses a six stud converter.

Ok. The '93 trans is running and working in the truck so I'd have the solenoid pack. The TC and updated plug would be my two items then it sounds like? I'd plan on putting in a new TC if I had the whole thing out.

All hypothetical right now. Found a '93 I like but seller says it has a hard 1-2 shift (I've been reading about the electronic joys that may cause that too) but I've also found a '97 trans with recent rebuild paperwork so I'm just throwing ideas around in my head.

Thanks!

Hard second shift could be anything. Shift kit, sticky valve, incorrectly torqued bolts could cause this.

Unless the 93 unit has been rebuilt with all the post 95 updates go with the 97. Another reason to go with the 97. The E4 has gone through many internal changes since its 89 introduction. 97 is almost at the end of production. Many of the weaknesses have been addressed at this point. So its a better unit by design. :D

Is there any way to ID an E4OD trans as a '97 trans when it is out of the truck? Any serial number references anywhere?

And correct me if I'm wrong but '95-'97 should all be the same?

Thanks

is there any benefit to using the 6 bolt converter over the 4 bolt?
i've read you can add the two holes to a 4 hole flex plate and go with the
6 bolt

Two extra nuts.

Unless the converter has been rebuilt with heavy duty components the are very much the same.
