for newbies, i would advise to fix the problem first.
get familiar with the proper workings of the rig,.
then modify if needed.

BEST to ensure all glow plugs are working correctly and controler too.

If you need glow plugs MOTORCRAFT BERU ZD1 IIRC OR INTERNATIONAL BERU ARE THE BEST TO GET crappion nottolite are *****

I just returned my 7.3 back to stock added new plugs...thing is solid now.

Start with functioning stock system and then modify.

muddigger, the 6.9 glow plug controller is notorious for going bad and burning out all the glow plugs. If you do put in a manual glow plug button, make sure you disconnect the glow plug controller.

I went to a manual system after having all my glow plugs burnt out -cuss. I'm very happy with the manual glow plug system

Anytime I do a manual setup I use 12 volt glow plugs, They take a little longer to heat but you can hold them indefinitely with out burning any out. I tested an autolite 1110 on jumper cables with my truck running, let it glow for over 5 minutes without burning out or swelling. Yes the 6 volt autolites for our truck are garbage.

You change the spade glows to the bullet glows plus add the solid state controller where it good for you. On most if not all 7.3 idi engines the solid state controller is behind the intake but it can be moved easily to either valve cover. these is that much extra wire.
