Having taken the front wheels off my 2008 Ranger 4x4 to put on mudflaps, I noticed there's no front disconnecting hubs - just halfshafts from the front studs direct to the diff - a solid front drive setup right through to the transfer case! No wonder it gets such bad fuel mileage for a small truck! I called the dealer, even Mazda, to see if any locking or auto hubs are available for it, but nothing. Does anyone know of any aftermarket conversions for this setup? If this truck had auto hubs, it would be the cream of the crop for light 4x4 pickups! Rob.

yeah my 01 ranger doesent have them also. and I havent heard of any conversion for them. the live axle setup I think is better because you dont hafta worry about auto hubs failing and also turning keeping everthing lubricated.

Hey man I used to have a 94 Ranger and I used to go to a site called rangerpowersports.com. They might be able to help since Rangers are the sites specialty.

there are manual hubs for the 98-01 rangers made by AVM but nothing for the 02-current.

i dont think rangers get that bad of fuel milage. my g/fs 04 Edge 4.0/auto/4x4/4:10s on 285/75/16s gets 16 average in town and up to 20 on the highway.
