2000 7.3 want start

We cannot get this truck started put some either in it and it wants to but want had it at a shop and the mechanic checked everything and said the compression must be low and need to put a new engine in it but he had worked at the dealership where I guess if you cant fix it just put a new engine in it,another mechanic said it has a couple of bad injectors. It was running but was loosing power and the next morning it would not start and now it has been sitting about a year and we needed to get it started. When we did get it started on either it ran good except for a little miss what else can we check we need to get it running asap. Thanks for any help
