Hello,

I have a 1997 7.3 that needs a new fuel bowl heater - the original one is broken and is shorting out the 30 amp glow plug fuse.

Here is the problem - every photo I see or post I read about this shows two screws at the plate on the bottom of the bowl under the filter - those are not there , the plate is there bit there are no screws or screw holes.

The bottom of the oil filter shaft seems to have a nut on it, removing that nut looks to be the only way to remove that bottom plate - i would need a deep crows foot wrench or very very deep socket to reach down over the filter shaft. Please see photo of heater with no mounting screws ...

Before I break this off do I have this correct ?

Agree...unplug the heater element and keep motoring. Really doesn't do much even in extreme cold (-20F) when your fuel is properly treated.

That stem removes with a crowe's foot wrench if I recall, shouldn't be too tight.
